چکیده
ABSTRACT: Dermacentor nitens Neumann is the most common tick species infesting horses in main Brazilian biomes. It has a predilection to attach horse ears, nasal diverticulum, perineal and perianal regions. The infestations can generate severe damage anemia, also acts as vector of Babesia caballi (Nuttall Strickland), causative agent equine babesiosis. Our study describes unusual parasitism site D. on female cross breed horse, approximately ten years old that presented high by ticks region, left eye orbit where an enucleation process had been performed few earlier. To our knowledge this first report formerly enucleated orbit.

Response of the tick Dermacentor variabilis (Acari: Ixodidae) to hemocoelic inoculation of Borrelia burgdorferi (Spirochetales).
When Borrelia burgdorferi B31 low passage strain spirochetes were directly injected into the hemocoel of Dermacentor variabilis (Say) females, the bacteria were cleared from the hemocoel within < 24 h. Viable spirochetes were not found in hemolymph, salivary gland, or ovary tissues by subculturing or by IFA. The hemocyte population increased approximately 6 times within the first 6 h after inoc...
متن کاملExotic grass invasion reduces survival of Amblyomma americanum and Dermacentor variabilis ticks (Acari: Ixodidae).
Exotic plants often invade areas of high human activity, such as along trails, roads, and forest edges, and in disturbed riparian areas. These same habitat types are also favored by ticks. This convergence suggests that habitat modifications caused by exotic plant invasions may mediate disease vector habitat quality, indirectly affecting human disease risk at the local spatial scale. We tested ...
متن کاملSuccessful Feeding of Amblyomma coelebs (Acari: Ixodidae) Nymphs on Humans in Brazil: Skin Reactions to Parasitism
Identifying the tick species that successfully feed on humans would increase knowledge of the epidemiology of several tick-borne diseases. These species salivate into the host, increasing the risk of pathogen transmission. However, there is a lack of data in the literature regarding the ticks that prefer to feed on humans. Herein, we describe the successful feeding of Amblyomma coelebs Neumann ...
متن کاملScreening and Identification of Antigenic Proteins from the Hard Tick Dermacentor silvarum (Acari: Ixodidae)
In order to explore tick proteins as potential targets for further developing vaccine against ticks, the total proteins of unfed female Dermacentor silvarum were screened with anti-D. silvarum serum produced from rabbits. The results of western blot showed that 3 antigenic proteins of about 100, 68, and 52 kDa were detected by polyclonal antibodies, which means that they probably have immunogen...
متن کاملHosts of the immature stages of the rhinoceros tick, Dermacentor rhinocerinus (Acari, Ixodidae).
The collection of the immature stages of Dermacentor rhinocerinus from host animals is described for the first time. These are the bushveld gerbil (Tatera leucogaster, from which larvae and nymphs were collected, the red veld rat (Aethomys crysophilus), from which a larva was collected, and the Natal multimammate rat (Mastomys natalensis), from which a nymph was collected. The rodents were exam...
